I need to change the mood box so that it says something more accurate, like 'State of Being:' or something. Because I get it, cold is not a mood unless it's like, cold hearted. Whatever. I usually can't think of a 'mood' per say so I just put whatever describes me at the moment.
So, V-day is coming up and all. I was going to just ignore it all together, but clearly some of my guy friends out there are still clueless about this particular holiday. And your girlfriends are probably telling you it's no big deal and not to worry about it, because these are the things we say. We're women, it's what we do. But the point of it is, Valentines Day is the one day a year that's set aside to tell the important people in your life how much they mean to you. And yes, you can say it's just a commercialized holiday masterminded by the jewelry stores and card companies. Whatever. Of course they cash in on it, but that doesn't mean you have to buy into that to make someone feel loved. That's just a cop out.
Anyway, so saying that you don't want to waste money on flowers that are just going to die or candy that she won't eat...that's just you being a moron. Hehe. Yep, I said it. If you think flowers are a waste, then don't buy flowers. Just put some thought into it and come up with SOMETHING to make the woman in your life feel special. Think of it this way, even if this is not the woman you're going to spend forever with, don't you WANT to impress her? Don't you want to be the standard by which she measures all men? The one guy that no one else she dates can ever compete with? So that years from now, she'll still be thinking about that great Valentines Day she had when she felt like she was wanted. That's all we ask, right?
I'm not talking about spending lots of money or anything over the top. Although, if that's what you had in mind, go for it. If you don't want to buy a dozen roses, buy a few and spread the petals out. Jewelry too expensive? A candelight picnic on the living room floor will earn you major points. Not into sappy Hallmark crap? Just get a blank card and put your own words in it. And remember, some girls have super romantic boyfriends that pull out all the stops, and your girlfriend/fiance/wife is going to want to brag about you when her friends are talking about what they did on Vday. Don't make her look bad. If a woman's friends think you're a good catch, it's that much better for you in the long run.
I'm not sure why I bothered with that particular rant. I guess just because I've had so many of my friends that got majorly disappointed by their guys on Vday. Not that women are excluded from this either. You should absolutely make an effort for the man in your life, especially if you're expecting him to do the same. Anyway, I will now resume my regularly scheduled hatred of this particular holiday.
Read the entry after this. It's better than this one.
